Congratulations to the 2018 Jr. Legion Big Dawgs! With an 11-1 victory over Phoenixville on Saturday, July 14th, the boys became Twin County League Champions. They will host the Regional Tournament from July 21st-25th at OJR. Congrats to all the coaches and players.
For your advanced planning, please be advised that we will be making a slight change to how we register for our Summer Norchester programs. In the past, registration took place in February and March. We will be moving spring registration to the fall beginning in fall of 2018. Anyone wishing to play for Norchester in Summer of 2019 will need to register this fall. Additionally, only those that are registered for Norchester's Summer 2019 program will be permitted to play Fall 'Ball for Norchester and participate in our winter (indoor) workouts. We are also discussing moving our tryouts for our summer teams to the Fall. This will allow us to have a better idea of our numbers well ahead of the season. It will also (hopefully) permit us a bit more time to secure coaches for our teams. Finally, it will ensure that those participating for our Fall teams and in our Winter workouts are indeed committed to playing for Norchester.
Congratulations to Andy Blum as he will receive a partial scholarship to continue his baseball career at Division II Kutztown University. We with Andy all the best in his academic and athletic endeavors.
NYAA would like to congratulate former Norchester player, Sr. Legion Manager and current President, Corbin Stoltzfus for his induction into the Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. He will be inducted during the State Tournament banquet in Boyertown in July 2018.
Corbin played Junior and Senior Legion baseball for Norchester and also for Owen J. Roberts. He went on to play at Kutztown University and remained for one season as the pitching coach after he graduated in 1992. He began his tenure as manager of Norchester's Sr. Legion team in 1995 and stepped down after the 2009 season. From then until now, Stoltzfus has served as the President of the Norchester Youth Athletic Association.
Under Coach Stoltz, the Bulldogs posted an overall record of 347 wins and 159 losses. Their league record during those same years was 214 - 96. The most successful seasons came between 2006 and 2009. Over those four seasons, the Bulldogs won three Chester County League Titles, four straight Region 3 titles, appeared in four consecutive State Tournaments, and earned two National Regional appearances (Indiana in 2006 and Michigan in 2007). In his final season (2009), Stoltzfus guided the Bulldogs to their highest win percentage ever with a record of 36 wins and 4 losses. The four losses were by a combined 5 runs. The 36 wins included a 29 game win streak entering in to the State Tournament.
Current manager Rick Harrison states, “I would like to personally congratulate Corbin on this well-deserved honor and the countless hours that he has dedicated to the program. Coach Stoltz has set the precedent of dedication and winning that we have tried to maintain the past 8 seasons. The program will be forever grateful for his time and dedication.”
