I believe that, thanks to the efforts of Coach Harrison and his staff, Norchester is ahead of the curve with helping our graduating players find the right fit if they have interest in playing college baseball. We are fortunate in that our program has a history of producing quality baseball players. College coaches know this by now and are interested in seeing many of our players each year.
Many thanks to everyone from the Norchester family that came out to Jay Lanes yesterday to support the Kochu family. The great turnout will allow them to once again provide a generous scholarship in their son Paul's name to a graduating OJR senior.
Congratulations to Andy Blum as he will receive a partial scholarship to continue his baseball career at Division II Kutztown University. We with Andy all the best in his academic and athletic endeavors.
Here's an interesting read on the Baseball Showcases that are out there. The bottom line is that you do what you think is best for your child. However, please do your research and don't simply but the bill of goods that they are trying to sell to you. Simply stated, if you are a college-level talent, they will find you.
NYAA would like to congratulate former Norchester player, Sr. Legion Manager and current President, Corbin Stoltzfus for his induction into the Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. He will be inducted during the State Tournament banquet in Boyertown in July 2018.
Corbin played Junior and Senior Legion baseball for Norchester and also for Owen J. Roberts. He went on to play at Kutztown University and remained for one season as the pitching coach after he graduated in 1992. He began his tenure as manager of Norchester's Sr. Legion team in 1995 and stepped down after the 2009 season. From then until now, Stoltzfus has served as the President of the Norchester Youth Athletic Association.
Under Coach Stoltz, the Bulldogs posted an overall record of 347 wins and 159 losses. Their league record during those same years was 214 - 96. The most successful seasons came between 2006 and 2009. Over those four seasons, the Bulldogs won three Chester County League Titles, four straight Region 3 titles, appeared in four consecutive State Tournaments, and earned two National Regional appearances (Indiana in 2006 and Michigan in 2007). In his final season (2009), Stoltzfus guided the Bulldogs to their highest win percentage ever with a record of 36 wins and 4 losses. The four losses were by a combined 5 runs. The 36 wins included a 29 game win streak entering in to the State Tournament.
Current manager Rick Harrison states, “I would like to personally congratulate Corbin on this well-deserved honor and the countless hours that he has dedicated to the program. Coach Stoltz has set the precedent of dedication and winning that we have tried to maintain the past 8 seasons. The program will be forever grateful for his time and dedication.”
